A Frangrant Offering

Got up this morning with a hankerin’ to make my favorite… Toll House chocolate chip cookies. Cookies for breakfast? Well… why not. What could be better!

Even though the batter is not yet stirred, I can imagine the smell… Oh, what a lovely bouquet… the joy and sweet pleasure of the aromatic fragrance… Toll House cookies baking in oven… nothing better. I can smell the sweet flavors of chocolate, creamy butter and sweet brown sugar… it is tantalizing my senses and filling the house and escaping out the kitchen window. I am intoxicated with the thought of it… gasping like a dying man, I take it in.

The aroma crescendos… swirling around face and lips as I open the oven door and lovingly place them on the counter to cool. I am utterly consumed with the thought of picking up that thick, steaming cookie and taking a first bite… The ecstasy of the moment…. warm and melted chocolate hits the tongue, the butter and walnuts crunch.

If you have never made them… please do! The recipe is not hard but what an extravagance awaits your senses. Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies. Wiki will help.

Of late, I have been feeling like a target is on my back. Maybe it could be those old growing pains from junior high school. But I have a choice to make… I can turn inward to self obsession or I can be that a sweet aroma of Christ, the intoxicating flavor of love

“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” (Ephesians 5: 1-2).

Oh that we would be a fragrant offering… a sweet aroma to the Lord, to You our gracious and loving Elohim… a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing (Philippians 4: 18). Father show us how… please forgive and wash us clean so that we can abide in you, live in your holy and loving presence, walking your ways, dwelling in your tabernacle, shining your Shinecinah glory as in the days of Moses and be as lovely and consuming as Toll House chocolate chip cookies… Thank you Father for Christ, our example who lived to love and loved to die. Thank you for your tender mercies and scandalous grace, so undeserved. We give you ourselves … for your service as a living sacrifice, a fragrant offering…
