God Weaving the Threads of Our Lives into the Tapestry of His Purpose

Becoming: An Eye Level View

Trafalgar_Square-1At Trafalgar Square in the city of London stands a statue of Lord Nelson. Resting atop a tall pillar, it towers too high for passersby to distinguish his features. For this reason, about forty years ago a new statue – an exact replica of the original – was erected at eye level so that everyone could see him. God also transcends our ability to see; the eyes of our understanding cannot discern divine features. But we have set before us an exact representation, “the image of the invisible God.” To know God we must only look at Jesus. (The Trivialization of God by Donald W. McCullough).

“May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross” Colossians 1: 11-20.

howard-sokol-flame-in-jewish-oil-lampLord Jesus, our Messiah and rescuer, open our eyes to see You, as You are, in all Your glory. For You are God incarnate, the beginning and end, who created everything and holds all together, and still loves us so much that You cradle us in Your hands. Lord awaken us to You. Light the flame of our lantern so that we may always burn with Your love. Amen
