Here I am… seeking pilgrimage, climbing toward the summit and longing to see the picturesque, panoramic view; to breath in deep, ragged breaths; to take in fresh, clean, effervescent energy. Yet it seems with each step, the rocky shale sends me back, back to the valley; slip, sliding back under heavy, dew-laden boughs, not overlooking them. I rest, breathing hard. Stitch in my side, thinking, “I hate this drip, drip, dripping on my head”. The misty fog draping thick and padding foot falls, so enchanting just hours ago, has lost its mystery. Just drip, drip, drip, dripping water droplets now running in steady streams down my head into my eyes, obscuring my path.
I know there is purpose in the valley, although at the moment, I am restlessly frustrated, wanting to turn back, return to the cabin… God whispers, “Be still and know” (Psalms 46: 10). He whispers, Breath in, breath out. Quiet child and rest (Matthew 11:29). Let it go. Let it all go. Taste of me and know. My words are sweeter than honey and they will light wherever you walk.
How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth… Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
From whence comes my help? (Psalm 121) … I lift my eyes (Psalm 123) … They that trust (Psalm 125) … If it hadn’t been (Psalm 124) … Except for God (Psalm 127) … Blessed is everyone who obeys (Psalm 128) …When God (Psalm 126)
From the depths of my despair I call to you, LORD. Hear my cry, O Lord; listen to my call for help! If you kept a record of our sins, who could escape being condemned? But you forgive us, so that we should stand in awe of you. I wait eagerly for the LORD’s help, and in his word I trust. I wait for the Lord more eagerly than sentries wait for the dawn— than sentries wait for the dawn.
Yes, that’s it… God. So simple. So profound. I must focus, on Him, every step. Ignore the drips, cease the striving, slow breathing and be still because He will show the way. Just focus. He is big enough. He is strong enough. His love is more than enough. He is worthy. Focus.
Christ Messiah, Etha’nan, Living Grace; may we seek you today. Forgive our wild and rebellious spirit. Help us to seek you in all things and not become distracted by misty, drip, drip, drip of rain drops. May You build Your house (Psalms 127:1) … living stones, we.
And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests.Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. (1 Peter 2:5)
Constructed stone by stone into a spiritual house, a tabernacle for your glory (2 Cor 5:1), mortared with Grace.
