Come To His Table…

Come To His Table…

Today is Sunday… Easter Sunday and I am so honored to be spending it sharing with you. Easter is important to me and I am so very glad you dropped by, albeit electronically, to share in the memories and secret innermost thoughts and musings that God has given. Throughout my life, God has blessed me. Indeed, He has blessed beyond measure. And more than anything, I want you to see His tenderhearted mercy and lovingkindness, per chance that you might choose to turn to Him. My hope and prayer for you, this Easter Sunday, is that you will try “[a] taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalms 34: 8). Don’t just take my word for it. Why not, just try a little taste… and see?

Easter is my favorite holiday… it has always been. Even as a child when I was unaware of what Easter meant, I still loved Easter! It may have started the Easter I entered a coloring contest advertised in the Sacramento Bee newspaper and won the most beautiful little black and white baby bunny… or perhaps it could have been the chocolate candy my brothers and I shared at Easter since candy and sweets were a rarity in our household… but, I think the main reason Easter was my favorite holiday while growing up was because the family all converged under one roof to eat one big meal together at my grandparent’s house.

The festivities would begin with my grandfather adding extra leaves to my grandmothers’ big, mahogany table that had been brought over from Germany and placing it in the largest room of their home, the living room. She would drape thick linen clothes over the beautiful black wood, while we children played underneath it amongst the huge lion clawed feet until the food was ready and then we would all sit around the great table and eat. There is nothing like getting together with family and eating a banquet together.

In the book of Luke, Christ once told a story about a man who gave a banquet feast and many were invited to come to eat at the hosts table. But the family of the man made excuses, one after another, not to come. “I have this to do and cannot come or I have that to do and cannot make it”. So the host sent servants out into the streets of the city and entreated everyone to come, even those who were lame, poor, crippled and blind. “Compel them to come” the man said,” Tell them, there is plenty of room at the great table” (Luke 14: 17-23).

Jesus is the host of this story and He is inviting you and me to come to his grand, banquet feast to eat and experience His presence. It is the free gift of grace and mercy from God, shining in the gospel of Christ.

Christ invited the whole nation and people of Israel to partake of the benefits of His gospel. There is provision enough for as many as would come, but they would not and will not come. However, it was prophesied hundreds of years before Christ told this story that God would offer a “feast for all people”… “The LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined” (Isaiah 25:6).

Christ, God in flesh, offers rich provision for poor souls. He offers nourishment, refreshment and the joy of His presence. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Come to His table that He has prepared for you. The banquet waits. Come and experience the joy and forgiveness of His presence.
