Rest, sweet rest…Sometimes, its just time to take a rest.
I am in one of those times. I never have been one to rest. Instead, I much prefer running to and fro with my hair on fire – working on this project, that deadline, burning the candle nub at both ends… That has been my life for over three decades. So, its time for a rest. God has called me to a season of rest in His wilderness.
God intervenes in ways we don’t expect or always appreciate, at first. But God always gives pleasures uncalled for, even if it is in the wilderness. He intervenes because He loves us. This is a ‘But God…’ moment, I suppose.
I never imagined the wilderness to be a place of blessing.
So this dumb sheep is embracing it – the rest in the wilderness – lying with my Shepherd, marveling at the refreshing of the grass and the rhythm of still waters; while He restores my soul.
It is a pleasant place, filled with love…despite my complaining. It is truly a wonderful place to bask in His goodness and enjoy. Have you ever pondered the word ‘enjoy’? The main part of the noun is joy – glee, elation, delight, glad feelings, like laughing heartily with unbridled restraint… God has called His Followers to this place. It is a place that I am now rediscovering.
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert”. (Isa 43:19)
“Lord and God, you make all things new. You alone will make a way for us. We are thirsty; in need of a water; only You can quench this consuming thirst… You alone will send quiet rivers of grace into our desert. We wait for You to spring forth – to sprout, grow, and bud. Amen”.
