True Love…

“I’ve been dreaming of a true love’s kiss, and a prince, I’m hoping, comes with this. That’s what brings ever-aftering so happy… ”

That was me… I woke up this morning from dreaming about love and then hearing this first line playing over and over in my head. But before you commit me, answer one quick question…. Don’t we all at one point in our lives or at many junctures over the years, dream… think about, fantasize about true love’s kiss. Of course, we would, do, have. We all desire to be loved, adored, especially if alone, feeling threatened or stuck in a vacuum of empty and meaningless striving. But even when life is peachy, man, who being created in the image of God, innately longs for acceptance, love and to share love, in a euphoric utopian existence… the happy ever after of endless bliss.

But let’s just say our prince or princess has come, we have settled all cozy and comfortable into the castle and we find ourselves still longing for that happy ever after to come to pass. The prince or princess is not enough. What do we do then? Find a new one?

Okay, let’s just say we did and began anew in the castle down the road. What then?
It would be the same cycle all over again. So, what’s the problem? Does our new love, have more flaws than the toad we just dumped? No, that’s not it. The fact is… we aren’t truly looking for a prince or princess or a life that gives a happy ever after. We are looking for God!

God programmed man or hotwired us to desire Him and to search longingly for Him. We will always long for Him. We convince ourselves that we truly desire love and human connection and search fervently for it, but it is God we truly seek. There is an empty void, a big gaping black, empty hole right in the middle of our existence that only God can fill. In the book of Psalms, Zimra (“song music”) or the Zabur (زبور) it states, “God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after [Him]” (Psalms 53:2).
Why would God do this? The answer is all about love. God loves us and created us to love Him back but on our own terms. He gave us free will to choose to love Him. We were not to be robots. He wants us to choose Him, no strings attached. God’s love is different than ours.

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant
or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).

If you listen, truly listen, you will hear God’s love song. He is singing of His love.

“The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing” (Zep 3: 17).
